I was reading on a forum today where some that are considering making extra income online through affiliate programs, selling on ebay and using google AdSense are concerned over how the bad economy is going to have an impact on the extra income they make online.
As with any business you always need a strategy and have to make adjustments according to your customers needs. When it comes to Internet marketing or selling products on eBay your will need to adapt. During times when the people are concerned with their personal finance and tightening purse strings you will find it more difficult to sell luxury items or things that are not a necessity. The downturn in the economy will bring a different type of buyer to the market and you will need to know how to react to make extra income from this new consumer.
I am of the opinion that just like the stock market during times of uncertainty you need to focus your marketing and search engine optimization on consumer needs. With more people being unemployed, looking for work and trying to find ways to save extra income you will find that search behavior will change. Search traffic for do it yourself , home repairs, auto repair, second hand, used items, budget travel, and of course career advice is going to increase while traffic for the luxury cars, vacations and real estate that many in the Internet marketing world have used to drive their extra income earnings is going to decrease.
It doesn’t matter if your new or experienced at making extra income online through affiliate marketing or selling on ebay you need to take a look at your strategy and target audience. I’m not suggesting that you stop promoting or selling luxury items to those that will still buy them , however you should take advantage of the lousy economy and capitalize on it by providing the answers to the expanded search traffic that is going to be created. If you expand your income creating options to include the need items, answer questions people that unemployed need answered, sell second hand, discounted or clearance products you will stand a much better chance at weathering the poor global economic situation.
This is a great time to focus on making extra income using localized niche marketing. Tell your readers how to fix something , where to buy products cheaper in your area, how to better their chances at getting employment or even where to go to get assistance for basic budgeting, finances, education and housing. If you look towards these types of local niches your find that making extra income during a bad economy should be all that difficult given the change in how people will be searching. Understand this is just my opinion on how I look at making money in this type of situation. Each of you that is considering Internet marketing, selling on eBay or starting a home business will need to base your strategy on your own research and understanding of consumer behavior. For Those that might be doubting if your can make extra income when everyone is facing tough financial hardships, keep a positive outlook and you’ll soon see your business expand and become more rounded to meet the needs of all those searching the Internet.

Creating extra income utilizing a hobby you already do on a frequent basis is probably one of the easiest ways to get your online business started. Almost everyone has some sort of hobby that can be turned into a way to make extra income. I ran across a site the other day that is a perfect example of this.
