Using Ebay To Sell Your Widgets

Everyone I’m sure has heard of ebay and realizes it’s an online auction service, but many people have failed to utilize it to sell their own widgets. If you want to make extra income online your going to need a products to sell. In my previous post we mention getting started by creating a product called the dirty blue widget. Now it really doesnt matter what it is your trying to sell so long as you have something. Before you can begin selling on ebay you’ll need to do a few things first. 1. you’ll need to sign up for an ebay account at http://ebay.com 2. you’ll need a way to take peoples money once they purchase your fancy blue widget. I highly recommend you dont take personal checks but that is up to your. If you want to accept credit cards as payment for your dirty blue widgets you’ll want to set up an account with Paypal or some similar service.

Ok now you have the basics of what is required to sell your widgets on ebay. The next thing you need to consider is how much are you going to sell your dirty blue widget for? Dont forget you need to figure in the cost of production, your time to make the item, packing and shipping costs associated and of course you want to add your profit margin.

After deciding how much to ask for your dirty blue widget you can proceed to creat your listing.

Dirty Blue Widgets - A Product Case Study

So you’ve decide that you want to get into selling a product on the Internet but aren’t sure where to start.  First lets decide what type of product you will sell.   Let’s choose to make extra income selling Dirty Blue Widgets for our example case.  Maybe you dont like widgets and would rather sell cool gadgets either way the principle is the same. In order to market your new gadget you will need to be able to fully explain the benefits and advantages of using, buying and owning a dirty blue widget.  What makes your gadget better than the next guys?  What would make someone buy your dirty blue widget instead of the clean read widget made by the company down the road?

Maybe your dirty blue widgets do a better job cleaning out gutters than the red gadget.  Perhaps it’s made from a superior type of materials that will last longer.  Since it’s designed to clean gutters lets say your product is made from light weight aluminum, with an extra long handle to accommodate gutters on the second story.  In addition your diry blue widget  will have multiple attachments to allow for hooking up a hose, multiple size scrapers and brushes and easy to replace parts if it gets broken. 

Ok once you have decided your dirty blue widget is made better, has better features and is overall more useful than the red widgets you can begin to market your product to the masses.  How you go about this will be key to your success.  Lets say you build a website and plan on selling them through the site, local stores and possibly eBay .  You should have a well laid out website that fully describes all the benefits and features of your dirty blue widget.  Make the product sound like its a must have item for every home owner.  You’ll want to descibe the benefits of keeping the gutters clean and why you widget is the best on the market to accomplish this.  You’ll also need to decide on the right type of packaging, warranty to offer and many other factors involved.  If your looking for some good ideas on how to get started marketing your dirty blue widgets, I highly suggest you check ok the television show “Big Idea With Donny Deutsch”.
